Mapping Parton Distribution Amplitudes and Functions
Parton distribution amplitudes (PDAs) and distribution functions (PDFs) play a key role in hadron physics. Their (x,Q)-dependence reveals basic facts about the emergence of massscales in the Standard Model, provides insights into confinement and bound-state structure, and delivers critical inputs to hard-scattering formulae and cross-sections for deep-inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan processes. New theoretical techniques yield novel and much needed predictions for the x-dependence of PDAs and PDFs and enable their correlation with measurable quantities that will allow for experimental validation at existing, upgraded and planned facilities. It is crucial to exploit these developments, building on synergies between different sub-disciplines. This workshop will therefore gather expert experimentalists and theorists, with the aim of consolidating gains already made and expediting progress towards definitive answers on the shortest possible time-scale. Success will lay a firm foundation for the experimental and theoretical methods needed in the future to chart the three-dimensional structure of hadrons.
