Main purpose of the present workshop
This workshop will provide a forum for the exchange of novel ideas in nuclear and particle physics, particularly those involving high-power laser systems (HPLS). We aim to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, including the exploration of experimental feasibility with insights from leading experts in laser-plasma physics, with the ultimate goal of stimulating collaborative experimental proposals.
Especially, we encourage topics/discussions relevant to the following question:
"What an HPLS can do differently to forward the field of nuclear/particle physics in a way, that an existing accelerator can not provide?"
Scientific Motivations
Nuclear physics, despite its remarkable achievements and recent advancements, is sometimes mistakenly perceived as a field of the past. In truth, it stands at the fore-front of scientific exploration, invigorated by cutting-edge developments in few- and many-body methodologies, field-theoretical frameworks, and state-of-the-art experimental techniques. These advancements have propelled the discipline into an era of maturity, enabling it to venture boldly into uncharted territories. One particularly exciting frontier lies in the study of systems in which particles interact with relatively low-energy (< 100 MeV) but extraordinarily high-intensity fields. In such environments, multiparticle processes rival or even surpass traditional one-to-one interactions, opening the door to groundbreaking discoveries. These investigations can be conducted in spatially dense settings, such as the cores of neutron stars, or through highly time-compressed sources, such as particle beams generated by high-power laser-matter interactions. The potential applications of this research are boundless, spanning nuclear photon-
ics, astrophysics, medical innovations, and much more. This workshop is dedicated to accelerating progress in this transformative paradigm, fostering collaboration and innovation to unlock the immense possibilities that lie ahead.

Focused topics to be discussed in our workshop are (but not limited to):
1. Nuclear physics under dense conditions
- Neutron stars and/or other dense astrophysical environments.
- Nucleosynthesis in Lab with plasmas generated by HPLS.
2. Nuclear physics under intense time-dependent fields
- Efficient photo- or electro-pumping/de-excitations of nuclear isomers.
- Optimization toward tailored HPLS-based beams for nuclear photonics.
- Novel neutron sources with focused beams and/or a high-repetition cycle of HPLS production.
3. New physics/phenomena/applications to be unveiled under intense or un-conventional beams
- Probing beyond standard model (BSM) physics with intense condition.
- Vortex beams (beams carry additional angular momenta) and their applications.

Information regarding support:
For early-career participants: Postdocs and PhD students can be partially supported by the EMMI funding (for travel and hotel). Please write your request in the section "Special requests" during registration. Please don't hesitate to contact the organizers should you need further information.
For all participants: Support (mainly for hotel) is possible but subjected to a rather limited total budget. Therefore, for those who can pay for their accommodations, we kindly ask you to do so whenever possible. Should you need partial support, please write your request in the section "Special requests" during registration, or contact the organizers for more information.
Support for US participants: Participants from a US institute can benefit from the EUSTIPEN initiative. Information can be found at: https://fribtheoryalliance.org/content/eustipen.php . The deadline for applications May 10.
Lunches at ECT* and 2 workshop dinners will be free for all participants.
