Description

QCD under extreme conditions

The ECT* Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) will focus on Quantum Chromodynamics under extreme conditions of nonzero temperature and density. The aim for the DTP is to guide the participants from the basics (quantum field theory at nonzero temperature, symmetries) via lattice QCD and other nonperturbative methods to the description of neutron stars and heavy-ion collisions, where comparisons with data are possible. At the end of the programme, participants are expected to have a thorough understanding of the foundations of the field and to be able to comprehend and contribute to current research questions.

The DTP will run for four weeks, with two lecturers per week, each providing about 8 hours of lectures, supplemented with exercises.

Students will have ample opportunity to interact with the lecturers outside the formal lecture period and in addition ECT* staff will be on hand to assist in tutorials and problem sessions. Students will have access to the computing facilities of ECT* and will be given the time and opportunity to continue working on their own Ph.D. project. The program is aimed at students who are in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. in an area related to the theme of the DTP.
